another awesome Review of Nerdcore night!

Nerdcore and meaningful-core in the same weekend? I’m there! A few things that caught my eye this week:
Lets hear it for TheGamerGirls.com! This social-networking site for female gamers is hosting a fun evening at the Ruby Room on Thursday. Nerdcore Night: A Night of Live Music, Video Games and Geek Culture will feature a video game booth and there are even prizes involved. Plus, enjoy live sets from Zealous1 (aka the Sleeping Dragon of Nerdcore), Dr. Awkward, Shammers, and Nikki & the Mongoloid. For more info, go here

5 Questions With K. Flay

Written by aubreeismyname

TheGamerGirls.com is essentially a social community for female gamers, with that said, what's your favorite video game?

  • "Rock Band.  I'm a freaking maniac on the green cymbal.

You recently wrapped up with SXSW, your new mix tape just came out, and your booked for shows in California, New York and the UK in the next couple months; Does everything seem to be moving pretty fast for you right now?

  • "I think things are moving at a good pace.  My goal right now is to be out on the road promoting the mixtape, in the studio recording new material, and just being in as creative a space as possible.  An empty calendar would actually make feel pretty sad."

We did an interview with MC Lars a few months ago; how did you end up working/performing/touring with him and after doing so what are your thoughts on him as an artist and the Nerdcore scene in general?

  • "I met Lars in college and he's been a great mentor to me over the years.  One of the most important things I learned from him was the value of an independent/DIY ethos, and I respect his dedication to that in all aspects of his career.  He's a true creative force and it's been rad to be around that kind of positive energy."

Our website, TheGamerGirls.com, is essentially about being proud to be a woman and at the same time, kicking ass in a man's world.  So far, you seem to be pretty successful at doing the same thing within the world of hip-hop: What do you think that says about yourself and the changing face of the music genre?

  • "I think that hip hop is in a cool state of fluidity right now -- there are so many different kinds of people and sub-genres mixing within that world.  More than anything, it seems like listeners are responding to material that's authentic and original, regardless of the artist's demographic."

Who would you like to make music with next?

  • "There's a lot of people I would give up limbs to collaborate with, but for the time being I'm trying to focus on developing my sound and production style on my own. Siddhartha vibes."

NOTE: We'd like to thanks MC Lars again for doing this interview.  I appologize in advance; this is my first formal interview with anyone, you know not for hiring purposes.... Enjoy!

Eric(bold): First off, let me say what a great honor it is to do this interview with you, I've been a fan since "The Laptop EP" but since not everyone has heard of you (Shame on them!) lets start easy!
  • Lars: Thanks homie!
