How are you liking them? I found Origin of Species to be an interesting read and I absolutely loved Dracula, but never read the Hunger Games. How is it hitting you so far?
I last finished The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas. It was alright, but this is one of those exceedingly rare situations were I actually liked the movie better than the book. I think a big part of that is that Dumas was more of a business man and opportunist than an authentic literary figure. Totally the Thomas Kinkade of literature! By that I mean he would steal another artists general idea, have a team of ghost-artists do the bulk of the work and then step in and add a few flourishes and his signature. True story on both counts.
That works well enough for uninspired "painter of light" garbage to hang on a wall, but doesn't suit story-telling too well. The result was a tad disjointed and a bit rambling. I'm wondering if M.Dumas was getting paid by the word as Victor Hugo was (explains a thing or 2 about M.Hugo's absurdly long passages, eh).
All in all it was still an interesting read and I'd recommend it if you want to absorb something quick and easy in the vein of adventure-betrayal.
Loving Dracula. I'm really enjoying the way it's written.
Origin of Species is great. Rather dry at times so I switch to the other two when it's too much.
The Hunger Games is kind of meh for me right now. I'm only a few chapters in though. I've heard a lot of good things so I'm sticking it out until the end of the book. Then I'll decide on reading the other 2.
I'm also trying to find my H.P. Lovecraft collection that I misplaced when I moved. Really strange stories, usually with sudden twists, if you've never read any of his work.
