what do you do when someone is in love with you but you don't love them back?

This guy I dated like 6 months ago just told me he's in love with me and wants me back. I'm engaged so there's absolutely no chance of me giving this guy another shot. I really don't know how to handle this type of situation. I feel so uncomfortable. He knows about my relationship but he won't give up on me. What do I do?

About a year ago I got back in touch with an old coworker who kept telling me he was in love with me and said if Mike and I ever broke up, he was next in line. I kind of had feelings for him when we worked together, but nothing ever happened. He kept e-hitting on me though, since he lives about 2 hours away. So he'd send me messages via MySpace and text message, and also chat with me on WoW. I just kept telling him to back off without being too mean, because he used to be a pretty good friend, and he really is a good guy.
Just keep telling him to back off. If you're not really friends with the guy, then cut him out of your life if you can. :-/ Not realy sure what else you can do...

I hadn't talked to him since I stopped dating him. He only just messaged me yesterday. He wants to hang out but I don't think that would be a good idea. I'm the type of person that feels bad turning someone down, though. I get in a lot of trouble that way.

Calmly and tell him how you are now engaged and have since moved on in your life

do NOT bring up past love between you two as it would hurt their feelings and confuse them. Just stick to your guns and explain that you see where they're coming from but you have taken the next step in your life and have no intentions of turning back

idk... maybe he was in love with me from the start and waited till now to tell me. either way, how do you politely tell someone to "back off"? he knows i've moved on but he just won't let go. man, i feel so bad about it.
