| I did some research not to long ago because I was also in the market for a new LCD. So, here's what I can offer. LCD's don't have the burn issue. This is pretty much ONLY projection tvs. DVD's will still look great. On a 16X9 TV, Full screen dvds will be opposite widescreen on a 4X3. So, the full screen will have black bars on the sides, instead of the top and bottem, as the widescreen would on a full screen tv. A new 100 doller upscaling dvd player will upscale regular dvds into near HD visuals, its cheap and easy to make your old dvds still look good (this means you dont have to rebuy anything, either). As for PS2 and Xbox 360. Both consoles have the option to show in 16X9 for wide screen tvs. I'm not sure if the PS2 actually outputs to HD, though. I know the Xbox 360 can, however. Just change the settings to HD in the dashboard. Also, HD DVD is dead, Blu-ray won the battle, just so you don't buy any HD DVDs. ![]()

| Awesome. Thanks for the info guys, especially Dustin. Yes, I heard all about the battle between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Amazing...now we war over DVDs as well as Oil, LOL. Right now I've got a VHS/DVD Combo (because of a few VHS tapes I have that I still like, like some old school DBZ movies, LOL). However, depending how the DVDs look I may go the route you suggested. On a larger TV, I don't think the black bars on the left and right side will bother me. Widescreen DVDs bother me some on my 20" TV, but for God Sakes, it's a 20" TV...lolol. Excellent, so now I'm in the market for a 42" LCD TV. $$$ Time to start working some overtime shifts, haha. Thanks again. I'll be sure to let you know what I end up with.

| Ok. A little bit of an update, and another question. I have a 22" LCD Monitor for my computer. When I look at the monitor from a bad angle, say the monitor is above me and I'm looking up, the picture goes to hell. The colors go inverted and it's just not watchable. The 50" TV I saw in person is my Grandmother's. I'm house sitting for them right now. I went into her room to check all the different angles to see if her TV experiences the same problem as my computer monitor. It does not. That was when I noticed that her TV is a PLASMA TV. Now, my two questions. 1. Do LCD TV's experience the same problem as LCD Monitors, with the different viewing angles? 2. I've heard some not so great things about PLASMA TVs. What's the deal with them? Better quality? More expensive? What..? Thanks again guys.

| Unsure about the LCD tv issue. I have never noticed it, though As for Plasmas, Plasma screens are made of glass, where as LCD's are plastic. This is both good and bad. On the good side, the plastic doesn't reflect light as much as the glass, so the picture will look the same from pretty much any normal viewing angle. Also, flashing a light on it, such as a flashlight or a camera, will not show up lense flare as it would on a regular screen. Plasma screens are more expensive. Normally you can take the price of an LCD and devide it by two to get the difference you'd most likely be paying for a Plasma. Plasma screens tend to be a bit crisper and sharper. However, Sony's Bravia engine has been able to make some LCD screens look as good as plasma (I was planning to get a 32 inch Sony LCD Bravia before the news that I'd be moving). So, if you where to say get a 40 inch Sony LCD with the Bravia engine, that'd cost probably $1600.00 to $1700.00. A plasma of the same size would cost about $2400.00 to $2600.00. Also, LCD's tend to be more durable. Plasma screens are glass, as I said, and can break easily. LCD's are plastic, and will be more durable in the long run. If you want a plasma, make sure to get an extended service warranty on it (that'd bump the price up to about 3 grand). Also, I am not sure about Plasmas, but LCD's all normally come with VGA inputs, so you can easily hook up your PC and use the TV as a giant monitor. Always ask pivital questions when purchasing something, however. Normally an extended service warranty is just a scam to get your extra money, especially if you may not need it, but also be sure to check out the warranty that comes with what you're purchasing. I've heard Best Buy sucks when it comes to these things, however, while talking to one of the employees, he said they have one of the best service warranties. If your product breaks, you call them, and they remove it and replace it with a brand new unit of the same make and model. If that one is unavaliable, you get the newest model, same brand and same size. Or you can pick one of equal value to what your purchased. This was what he said, but I didn't have time to completely confirm it, so check with your local Best Buy on that. Also, shop around. If you find the brand and model you want, price check places. Also check to see if places have a price matching gurantee. This way if you find it cheap, but you don't trust the place, take it to a larger retailer that has price matching and you'll get it for the cheaper price.

| Excellent information. To save the money I'm likely going to go with the LCD, though I'll have to experiment on the viewing angles ordeal with some display models at wal-mart, sam's club, etc. My Grandfather bought the 50" Plasma for my Grandmother from Sam's Club. I think he said it was around $1,500.00, so I'm going to assume your prices are a little off. At least in comparison to my location. of course, he's old, he could just be remembering the price wrong, lol. Either way, I haven't the room, or need for a 50". 32" Would have done me, 42" will make me very happy and pimp worthy. Soon after I'll have Surround Sound and girls over to watch @#$@#$@#$@#$, er, I mean, watching horror movies lololWhen I get back into town, I'll do some experimenting and let you know what I come up with. My purchase will likely be made at Wal-mart or Circuit City. Circuity City because I know a manager there who can get me a deal on Open Box stuff. Ya know, thestuff they used for 2 days and decided they wanted less or more, so they brought it back. It's nice to know lots of people lol

| I can't help but feel insulted by the fact that you believe my prices are a little off, because your grandfather (No offense intended, by the way) is most likely remembering a price wrong. Especially considering this: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665118447 Well, thats the end of my help. I'll take the insult and move along. Good day.

| I'm going to assume your post to be an April Fool's Day joke, lol. Especially since I mentioned that my Grandfather is old and could be wrong, lol. However, even I myself have seen similar prices in person. This isn't the best brand, and it's certainly not bravia but here is a comparison. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889022063 I think where I may have made the mistake in my prior post was not mentioning that I've seen other brands cheaper and don't think I'd have the money to go all out on a Bravia type. Just sayin. I think the TV my Grandfather bought for my Grandmother is a Vizio brand, which I'd never heard of before, lol. Either way, as I said, I'll update this thing when I get back into town and see some prices at the stores.

| Damn, you called my joke. Shit. ![]() Yeah, Vizio is a cheaper brand, however they're also lower quality. If anything, make sure you ask about the closest name brand you can afford. Also ask if it has audio/visual lag, as this will effect ALOT of video games (including shooters and rhythym games). Anyways, thats all I can offer since I am leaving for a few days, now. Peace and best of luck on the search. ![]()
